EMK & portfolio companies recognised at the BVCA 'Excellence in ESG' Awards

We are delighted to announce that Reconomy Group, an EMK Fund I and Fund II portfolio company, was awarded top recognition in the ‘Excellence in ESG - Portfolio Company’ category at the 2022 British Venture Capital Association (“BVCA”) summit.

The Portfolio Company category seeks to recognise companies which have made an outstanding commitment to ESG.

Reconomy Group’s selection recognises the company’s position as the leading international circular services platform providing its customers, which are based in over 80 countries, with services across its business verticals of Recycle, Comply, and Re-use.

EMK has played an integral role in developing and implementing Reconomy Group’s transformative growth strategy, combining its constant focus on innovation through the development of proprietary software platforms to better serve customers with significant value accretive add-on acquisitions, and transformed the former UK waste management business into the leading global circular services platform.

We are delighted with this recognition of Reconomy Group’s ability to truly improve sustainability-related outcomes for its customers on a global scale.

In addition, two further EMK portfolio companies, Bright Data and Williams Advanced Engineering (“WAE”), were awarded special recognition for the same category. Both firms were recognised for their innovative ESG-related programmes; Bright Data for its role in promoting internet data transparency and pioneering ethical use of public data (both through its own governance policies and its advocacy and advice to external stakeholders), as well as its critical research and educational initiatives through the Bright Data Academy; and WAE for its focus on electrification, light weighting, aerodynamics and thermodynamics in a hard to decarbonise sector.

In the ‘Excellence in ESG – General Partner’ category for GPs with AUM over £1bn, EMK was awarded special recognition. The GP category celebrates firms from across the private capital ecosystem that have made impressive progress on ESG. EMK won this award at the 2021 BVCA summit and so this year’s special recognition acknowledges our ongoing, firm-wide commitment to ESG.

ESG forms an integral part of the culture at EMK and over the last 12 months we have continued to evolve and expand our ESG activities across the firm and within our portfolio companies.
